December 16 — Goodwill Dallas is thrilled to announce a significant donation from MacKenzie Scott on December 15 as part of a historic gift presented to 384 organizations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. Goodwill Dallas is one of three organizations in the Dallas metroplex to receive a donation from Scott. This investment comes at a time when more than 4 million Texans have filed for unemployment relief since mid-March and urgently need help finding their next jobs. This gift will enable Goodwill Dallas to expand its direct efforts and deliver our mission locally to equip North Texans with the skills they need to get back to work and onto sustainable career paths. The gift from Scott will help accelerate Goodwill Dallas’s strategic plan to address growing workforce needs as demands for targeted skills in the labor market increase, which make it difficult for many people to compete for new jobs.
“While we have had a long history of strong local support, this is a national validation of Goodwill Dallas’ effort. Her team took an outside-in, evidence-based approach and found what we have long known about this special organization: Goodwill delivers sustained impact at scale,” said Larry Helm, board chair at Goodwill Dallas.
For almost 100 years Goodwill Dallas is dedicated to changing lives, one job at a time by closing the skills gap and eliminating the associated challenges created by inequities through our social enterprise model. Because Goodwill Dallas is already responding to North Texans most pressing needs, these resources will be deployed immediately to help those who need it the most, including people of color, workers with limited education, people with disabilities, and people impacted by the criminal justice system, among others.

Goodwill’s mission-based model is constantly evolving to meet community needs. Goodwill Dallas provides a breadth of services to individuals with barriers to employment, especially individuals with disabilities and those emerging from crisis. Services range from job readiness, skills training — including digital skills, and employment placement, as well as access to holistic wraparound services such as housing, financial education and transportation. This financial gift will enable Goodwill Dallas to enhance existing programs and introduce new efforts such as credentialing programs over the next three years.
